The Rise of Rock 'n' Roll

This exciting camp focuses on the bands that brought rock ‘n’ roll to the forefront of global culture, affirmed music as a tool of social awareness, and unified the young voices of the world. In this week-long session, campers will play and perform 60s songs of their choice, explore 60s artistic history through games and activities, and perform live for family and friends at a culminating show!

In this week-long 1970s rock camp, students will be challenged to hone the instrumental technique, songwriting and showmanship of the decade’s most influential artists, then bring it to the stage in a show they will never forget! 1970s pop and rock represent a period of artistic freedom, creative expression and experiment. Electric guitars and keyboards became powerful orchestras. Vocalists, male and female, tested the limits of their range. Drums began to sound like beautifully tuned cannons. Musicians and bands combined blues music with pop sensibilities and brought modern music into the limelight worldwide.

In this week-long intensive performance camp we are going to immerse ourselves in the music of our favorite 1980s artists! Campers will experience the decade’s cutting-edge electronic music technology and learn how it integrated with traditional instrumentation. In this week of exciting rehearsals, instrumental lessons and rock history games and activities, we will explore the diverse sounds of this era, from hard rock to glam rock, MTV pop to metal, to the rise of punk rock and how these genres led to such a fantastic period of musical innovation. Be ready for the end-of-week performance that will be sure to blow you away!

1990s: A Rock Rebellion

1990s: A Rock Rebellion

The 90s brought forth a slew of bands that captured the personal feelings of a generation. In this week-long performance camp, students will experience grunge from Seattle, alternative rock from the Pacific Northwest, indie, folk and psychedelic rock from the Midwest, the pop-punk and punk-style rebellion from L.A. and so many more nineties styles. During this exciting week like-minded students will choose set lists of their favorite artists, develop technique and performance skill through fun rehearsals and instrumental lessons, enjoy musical activities and rock history games, all while making strong friendships. Be sure to bring friends and family to the culminating 90s show these campers will never forget!

2000s: Millennial Rock Camp

2000s: Millennial Rock Camp

Rock, pop, alt-rock, blues, singer-songwriter and more…this is the millennial camp of the 2000s! This exciting week of music will cover iconic styles and sounds, such as the sensational shimmer of mainstream pop, the boisterous theatrics of pop-punk, the bright riffs of guitar rock bands and the lush textures of singer-songwriters. Campers will rock the songs of their favorite artists and bands, explore the decade’s music history and techniques through games and activities, and perform live for family and friends in a wildly exciting culminating show!

  • Camps are Monday – Friday from 9:00am – 3:00pm
  • For ages 9 – 18 with at least 6 months experience on their instrument
  • Fun and interactive day camp with private lessons, group rehearsals and team bonding
  • Designed to challenge current students and immerse new students in the NYRA experience
  • Students hone performance and ensemble skills
  • Students focus on feel, tone, technique, vocal harmony and next-level stage performance
  • Promotes valuable life skills such as self-discipline, team building, a solid work ethic, leadership, and mentoring skills
  • For guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, vocals, or any and all other instruments!
  • Week culminates in a full-blow rock show at a local music venue!
