Scarlette Hashimoto
Scarlette Hashimoto is a dedicated cello teacher who is passionate about helping children build confidence, creativity, and a lifelong love of music. She believes that learning an instrument can support young people’s development in many ways, from focus and discipline to self-expression and communication. Her teaching emphasizes a strong technical foundation, healthy practice habits, and an approach that is both structured and encouraging.
Scarlette tailors her lessons to each student’s age, personality, learning style, and goals. She strives to create a warm, supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and discovering their own musical voice. Alongside developing solid cello technique, she encourages students to think of music as a form of expression, storytelling, and connection with others. She also helps students develop effective practice and time-management skills that benefit them beyond their music lessons.
Scarlette has studied cello since the age of four, attending music schools throughout New York City, including School for Strings and the Mannes Pre-College program. She is currently pursuing degrees in Classical Cello Performance and Philosophy at SUNY Purchase College, where her teachers have included Alex Croxton, Maureen McDermott, and Caleb Van Der Swaagh.
Her broad musical background informs her creative and flexible approach to teaching. She has performed and collaborated with musicians across classical, jazz, and contemporary styles, including through Carnegie Hall’s Future Music Project, the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, and String Orchestra of Brooklyn. These experiences have strengthened her belief that every student can find a meaningful and rewarding connection to music.
